What this place is
The Central Botanical Garden is not a park for strolling but a scientific institution of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. Behind every avenue lies the work of botanists: collecting, studying and conserving plants.
Yet simply walking here is a joy too: shady paths, flower beds and tree collections bring coolness and quiet a stone's throw from busy Baku.

The garden's main task is not beauty but conservation. Here rare and endangered species of Caucasian flora are carefully grown so they do not vanish from the earth. It is a living ark for plants.
